We want everyone to be able to use the JALBAR Constructions website, including people with disabilities. We’re working to make it clear, usable, and accessible.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and we’re working toward the newer 2.2 AA standard. These guidelines are the recognised benchmark for accessible websites in Australia and support our obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth).
What we’ve done
- Written the site with clear, structured headings and a meaningful reading order.
- Labelled every form field and grouped related options so they work with screen readers.
- Made the site fully keyboard-operable, with a visible focus outline and a “skip to content” link.
- Respected the “reduce motion” setting in your device or browser, so animations don’t play if you’ve asked them not to.
- Provided text descriptions (alt text) for meaningful images.
- Used a responsive layout that works on phones, tablets, and desktops, and supports zooming and larger text.
- Chosen a colour palette with legibility and contrast in mind.
Known limitations
Accessibility is ongoing work, not a one-off. A few areas we’re still improving:
- Some secondary or decorative text could have stronger colour contrast, and we’re refining this.
- Embedded third-party content, such as our Instagram feed, isn’t fully within our control and may not meet the same standard.
- Some older photos may have brief rather than detailed descriptions.
We review the site periodically and fix issues as we find them.
Compatibility
The site is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and with keyboard navigation and common screen readers. If you’re using older technology, some features may work less well.
